My take on disco

To some people disco sucked but to others it brought everyone together on the dance floor to get away from their troubles. In my opinion I thought it was good music to dance to and it actually forced the average joe who had two left feet learn how to do the hustle or any dance that was popular during that time. On my radio show I interviewed Tom Moulton who is considered to be one of the pioneers of what we now know as the remix and he said that the remix came about from the DJ's desire to keep the people on the dance floor for a longer period of time because at that time your regular radio single only lasted a little bit under 4 mins. The downfall of disco came in 1979 when Steve Dahl a radio personality for Chicago rock station WLUP staged a disco demolition night in the old Cominsky Park in between a doubleheader with the White Sox and Detroit Tigers and the fans got a little too carried away which forced the White Sox to forfeit the second game. Like any other music genre that gets too popular the major labels decided to saturated the consumer with disco everything, even having artists who were not labeled disco cut disco records in order to cash in. Even though some look at it as a dirty word but as I stated before it brought people together to have good time.
